BRYANT GUMBEL: Finally tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among who don’t like them and won’t watch them. In fact I figured when Thomas Paine said these were the times that tried men’s souls, he must have been talking about the start of another Winter Olympics. Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like try not to be incredulous and in somewhat attempts to link these games to those of the Ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are not the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss and cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won.

Basically what Gumbel is saying is, “I don’t watch the Winter Olympics because they’re not black enough”. Pointing out a racial divide to make a political low blow? Sad to say it, but there is now bias in the sports media.

The ads were almost as good as the Super Bowl itself. That is how bad the game was. I’m glad the Steelers won and I am glad The Bus went out on a high note, but the Seahawks just played a terrible game and didn’t make it exciting.

If you missed a commercial or want to see them again, Google Video has them all.

Rush appeared on The Golf Channel a few days ago to discuss his interest in the sport and politics. Rush says he would have liked to play golf with President Eisenhower because of his success in World War II and the amount of time he has spent playing golf. Limbaugh also talked about Hillary Clinton and his radio show. He also talked about President Bush 41, Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie.

Woodfolk is describing a phenomenon that some call the “Redskins Effect?: that trance-like state of calm that descends on the region when hundreds of thousands of eyes are staring at football. Today, at 4:45 p.m. — kickoff of the Washington Redskins’ first playoff game in six years — expect many area residents to retreat en masse to their dwellings or sports bars. Outside, life will continue, but according to those who’ve lived it, the pace will be quite different.
