Keith Olbermann has officially gone insane. On Thursday night’s edition of Countdown, he practically begged FOX News host Bill O’Reilly to say his name on television. Comedian Keith Olbermann did one of those lame “Factor Fiction” (emphasis his) segments last night, mocking Bill O’Reilly and Geraldo Rivera’s discussion on media “vampires”. Vampires, referring to the blood sucking media types like Keith Olbermann! The Olbersphere, a term coined by Robert Cox at Olbermann Watch, weighs in on Olbermann’s sad attempt to be funny.
The infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann launched into another of his famous “dramatic readings” of the transcript, interspersing snarky, too-hip-for-my-shirt asides that had The Laughing Stagehand in convulsions. Then all of a sudden, it was over. It just stopped. Color us disappointed. Where was the “fiction” Olby promised to expose? What were the “lies” that Mr Bill spoke? Um, well, you see, there weren’t any. Those two promises from The Schmuck were—all together now—more Olbermann lies.
Greg Sheffield at Newsbusters quips:
On last night’s “Countdown,” Keith Olbermann wondered why he still hasn’t gotten Bill O’Reilly to mention his name.
The usually sycophantic TVNewser actually reports about the incident for once, without any of his pro-Keith rhetoric.

Newsbusters details Rather’s reluctance to label Hezbollah, hellbent on destroying Israel, as a terrorist organization.
Bill O’Reilly: “But here’s the problem with American reportage. Some networks give moral equivalency to Hezbollah in the reporting of this war.” Dan Rather: “I agree that that’s a problem.” O’Reilly: “Do you agree it happens?” Rather: “I agree it happens, and I agree it’s a problem, that, it’s a problem that those of us in journalism have been reluctant to address—I do not exclude myself from this criticism—reluctant to address that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization.” O’Reilly: “Right.” Rather: “It’s committed to the destruction of Israel. It isn’t committed to trying to just gain territory. It’s committed to its destruction.”
Dan Rather money quote, literally:
“It’s not by accident that our slogan in this country, written on our money, our buildings in Washington, united we stand.”
It’s fake, but acurate!

Now this is the Krazy Keith we know and love. Kick off the opening spiel with a classic Olbyism:24 Iraqi citizens, including unarmed women and children, shot deliberately by US Marines.
That’s our Keith. None of those silly legalities like “alleged” or “accused”. Just declare guilt and prepare to pass sentence. KO later slips in that it’s a “preliminary conclusion”, which legally doesn’t even rise to the level of an indictment, but such fine points don’t carry much weight on The Hour of Spin.
Keith already convicting soldiers before they even stand trial. This coming from the same Keith Olbermann who claims Bill O’Reilly called US troops murderers. Hypocrite.

On the 4pm hour of Monday’s The Situation Room, anchor Wolf Blitzer highlighted several political news stories, including Republican candidate for president, Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA)’s use of the term ‘tar baby’. To some, the term is a racial epithet, however the true meaning of the word is a ‘sticky situation’, hence the term ‘tar’.
CNN’s Jack Cafferty joined the program Blitzer was finished reading the headlines with his ‘Cafferty File’ segment. Cafferty, who is know for his unscripted remarks, opined on the ‘tar baby’ situation and applied Romney meant the comment in a racist sense. However, Cafferty did not make the audience aware of his racist past:
CAFFERTY: I don’t have an assessment. It’s comforting to—to look at guys like Romney and the tar baby remark and—and know that we have such a—a high-quality stable of candidates waiting to take over the nation’s highest office. What the hell is he thinking? Tar baby? I mean, come on.
Cafferty has used several racial epithet’s of his own, even on CNN. The ADC notes Jack’s insensitivity towards those of Japanese descent:
It should be noted that Cafferty has a history of insensitive remarks towards many minority groups, not just Arabs and Muslims. In November of last year, he allegedly went as far as to crudely mock the Japanese language through a series of “ching” and “chong” noises.
Full transcript of the exchange:
WOLF BLITZER, HOST: A possible Republican presidential hopeful is apologizing for using racially charged words. Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts referred to the troubled Big Dig construction project in his home state as a tar baby, said it’s—said it at a fund-raiser with Iowa Republicans on Saturday. Romney now says he didn’t know anyone would be offended by the term, which some consider to be a racial epithet.### JACK CAFFERTY: I don’t have an assessment.
It’s comforting to—to look at guys like Romney and the tar baby remark and—and know that we have such a—a high-quality stable of candidates waiting to take over the nation’s highest office. What the hell is he thinking? Tar baby? I mean, come on.

Keith Olbermann appeared on the Late Late Show Friday night. He didn’t mutter O’Reilly’s name once, but referred to the FOX News host as an “idiot”. Olbermann went on to claim that he was “neutral” because he did a number of reports on the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal in 1998. However, Olbermann did not note he quit the job because he was frustrated.
Newsbusters has video and audio.
Olbermann Watch writes a description and rebuttal incase you weren’t around to watch it.

UPDATE: Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters fills me in that Olbermann was also absent last Friday and had Brian Unger fill in.
Guest-hosting for Bill O’Reilly on Friday’s edition of The O’Reilly Factor, radio talk show host Laura Ingraham crushed Brian Unger, who was filling in for Keith Olbermann of MSNBC’s Countdown, which airs at the same time.
According to Inside Cable News:
8PM – P2+ (25 – 54)
O’Reilly Factor – 1,674,000 viewers (407,000)
Paula Zahn Now – 721,000 viewers (281,000)
Countdown – 408,000 viewers (193,000)
Nancy Grace – 660,000 viewers (238,000)
National Heads Up Poker – 151,000 viewers (80,000)
Last month Ingraham did a test show for a new FOX pilot. TV Newser wonders if Ingraham was doing a tryout when she subbed for O’Reilly.

Keith, as usual, played games with O’Reilly’s words and smeared him as saying something else.
In the Media Matters Minute, O’Reilly was back as a runner-up, thereby filling the Fox News quota for the evening. KO ridiculed Mr Bill’s suggestion that Rush Limbaugh’s customs detention was “a set-up”. To do so, comedian Keith Olbermann conveniently ignored the fact that Bill was not talking about someone else putting the medicine in the trunk (as Olby falsely claimed) but rather the near-instantaneous leaking of the details to local and national press. If we were counting, this would be O’Reilly Attack #102. But we’re not counting. Really.

In the Media Matters MInute, Olby called Ann Coulter a “screaming fraud”, blaming her for people who send white powder to the New York Times. KO, who relies on the Media Matters summaries (often misleading and inaccurate) apparently didn’t actually check the transcript of what Annie said, and bellowed: She went on another radio show to suggest staffers of the New York Times be executed.Coulter’s exact words:
And do you think there is any possibility any action will be taken against The New York Times for something that could have gotten them executed, certainly did get the Rosenbergs executed?Annie suggested that legal action should be taken against the Times. That is a bit different from her inciting people to kill staffers at the Old Gray Lady. But such fine distinctions are lost on comedian Keith Olbermann, whose spin grows lamer and more desperate by the day.

Ann Coulter appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball this past Friday to discuss the crisis in the Middle East, her new book, and the Plame-Wilson whine lawsuit.
Guest host Norah O’Donnell kept trying to get Coulter to apologize for her remarks about the Jersey Girls. She wouldn’t.

Allah at Hot Air has this to say about Time magazine hiring yet another liberal blogger:
This makes three bloggers writing for Time now: Marshall, Wonkette, and of course St. Andrew.St. Andrew being the “conservative.”
Remember when WaPo hired Ben Domenech and the left wet its pants for days over the fact that they hadn’t hired a left-wing blogger to balance him out? When does Time sign Captain Ed or Josh Trevino to balance out Marshall?
Agreed!
O’Dub complains about Malkin’s opinion, objecting that the two previous liberals aren’t really “liberals.” I guess he doesn’t understand that the issue is TIME won’t hire conservatives or “conservatives.” Sigh.
