Surrounded by press secretaries of previous administrations and his own Tony Snow, President Bush joked around with the White House press corps in the James Brady room, which will be closed while it undergoes renovation.

When questioned if he thought if Mel Gibson should be forgiven, the President questioned “is that Sam Donaldson”, continuing he called the ABC correspondent a “has been”.

THE PRESIDENT: Is that Sam Donaldson? (Laughter.) Forget it. You’re a has-been. We don’t have to answer has-been’s questions.

QUESTION: Ohhhhh!

Last night, Ms. Underestimated posted about Palestinian’s staging deaths. The blog EU Referendum posted about “rescue workers” parading the dead bodies of children to the press, who just ate it up.

Matt Sheffield at Newsbusters has an excellent post on MSNBC’s liberal in chief Keith Olbermann:

When you think about it, aside from its host, “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” has a lot of things going for it. It’s got nice graphics, some different music to it, and a snappy pace. Far left bloggers routinely urge their readers to watch. It never fails to get good press from liberal journalists whose greatest fantasy is Roger Ailes getting hit by a bus—which may explain why so many of them have been taken by a guy whose bizarre antics, strange demeanor, journalistic ineptitude, and ridiculous pomposity should have gotten him laughed out of the news business in under three months.

It’s probably safe to assume that Olbermann is aware of all this. How else could one explain his latest desperate ploy for attention, donning a mask of Bill O’Reilly while doing a Nazi salute? Now, via Olbermann Watch, we learn that NBC and the “Countdown” staff planned the entire thing.

Keith Olbermann, who did the Nazi salute with an O’Reilly mask covering his face, has responded to FOX News’ Roger Ailes remark that the MSNBC host’s action was over the line.

Unsurprisingly, Olbermann’s response was made available to TVNewser:

"’Over the line?’ Where was Roger when O’Reilly defended the Nazi SS stormtroopers from Malmedy in World War II? The SS shot 84 American POW’s there in 1944, and three different times in the last year, Bill called has called those dead Americans war criminals. I guess there is no line at Fox News."

UPDATE: Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters fills me in that Olbermann was also absent last Friday and had Brian Unger fill in.

Guest-hosting for Bill O’Reilly on Friday’s edition of The O’Reilly Factor, radio talk show host Laura Ingraham crushed Brian Unger, who was filling in for Keith Olbermann of MSNBC’s Countdown, which airs at the same time.

According to Inside Cable News:

8PM – P2+ (25 – 54)
O’Reilly Factor – 1,674,000 viewers (407,000)
Paula Zahn Now – 721,000 viewers (281,000)
Countdown – 408,000 viewers (193,000)
Nancy Grace – 660,000 viewers (238,000)
National Heads Up Poker – 151,000 viewers (80,000)

Last month Ingraham did a test show for a new FOX pilot. TV Newser wonders if Ingraham was doing a tryout when she subbed for O’Reilly.

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes responded to Keith Olbermann’s latest critical volley against Bill O’Reilly on Monday, saying the MSNBC host’s behavior “is over the line.”

Ailes, appearing Monday at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association, was referring to a weekend incident at the gathering in which Olbermann whipped out a mask of O’Reilly and gave a Nazi salute.

Ailes said Olbermann picks on Fox’s O’Reilly to boost his ratings.

“Clearly he has no viewers except those he gets when he attacks Fox News,” Ailes said.

It would be nice to see Keith apologize, but instead he will probably attack Ailes with some sort of fat joke or attacking FOX News in general.

I hope you don’t have any liquids in your hand at the moment, my apologies if you do:

Al Gore has met the Dalai Lama. He’s broken bread with Boutros Boutros-Ghali, rubbed elbows with Lech Walesa, even locked arms with Nelson Mandela. But right now — on a breezy June evening in Los Angeles, at a special star-studded screening of An Inconvenient Truth — he’s about to step up to a whole other level. Tonight, the former Vice President of the United States will shake hands with Denise Richards.

History in the making.

Let’s follow the ex-VP as he strolls down the red carpet — past some of the other celebrities here, like Jon Bon Jovi and Ray Wise (you know, the actor who merely plays a vice president on TV’s 24), pausing to wave at the nearly 4,000 cheering fans who’ve gathered for the event, until he finally arrives at the row of reporters waiting to ask him some questions.

Novak reveals his sources, for those of you who care:

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has informed my attorneys that, after two and one-half years, his investigation of the CIA leak case concerning matters directly relating to me has been concluded. That frees me to reveal my role in the federal inquiry that, at the request of Fitzgerald, I have kept secret.

I have cooperated in the investigation while trying to protect journalistic privileges under the First Amendment and shield sources who have not revealed themselves. I have been subpoenaed by and testified to a federal grand jury. Published reports that I took the Fifth Amendment, made a plea bargain with the prosecutors or was a prosecutorial target were all untrue.

###

However, on Jan. 12, two days before my meeting with Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor informed Hamilton that he would be bringing to the Swidler Berlin offices only two waivers. One was by my principal source in the Valerie Wilson column, a source whose name has not yet been revealed. The other was by presidential adviser Karl Rove, whom I interpret as confirming my primary source’s information. In other words, the special prosecutor knew the names of my sources.

When Fitzgerald arrived, he had a third waiver in hand—from Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson’s identity. I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source.

Radio talk show host Laura Ingraham appeared on The O’Reilly Factor Tuesday evening to discuss news organizations undermining the Bush administration, such as The New York Times. Ingraham, who is always right, says the NY Times thinks America is the “single biggest danger to the modern world”, which is why they keep writing about how America tracks’ terrorists. When asked if she thinks Keller and the Times want America to lose in Iraq, Ingraham said that they don’t want us to lose, but it would be better for them if we did.
