May 31st marks Katie Couric’s last day as the co-anchor of “The Today Show,” and to celebrate, I have put together a tribute that includes all of Katie’s memorable moments.

I always love the “media is neither liberal or conservative” from people on the left. It would be a great argument except every study done shows a clear trend to the left of most MSM outlets (search for UCLA or University of Chicago studies to name just 2).
What’s even funnier is that under most statistical analysis models Fox actually comes in as the closest to the center of any major news outlet (excluding Internet sites such as Drudge) but yet they are still demonized by those who are so use to living in the left wing echo chamber of traditional MSM. (I’d like to make special exceptions for “NewsHour With Jim Lehrer”, “NewsNight With Aaron Brown” and “Good Morning America” which on average, also score pretty close to center, with just a slight left or right tilt).
Now back to the topic on hand, even with her evident left leaning tendencies I may be in the minority here in saying I still liked Katie. There were times that her obvious bias shown through quite clearly but to me she wasn’t really an important journalist as much as a morning talk show personality. I think I give her a lot of leeway because of her Michael Moore interview a year or so ago when no matter how much Moore pestered her she could not force herself to say that she considered him a friend or for that matter even liked him. That brief show of disgust at having to interview Moore gave me at least some hope that she hadn’t abandoned all journalistic integrity and although her job called for her to be there, there was no way she was going to play nice with that fraud.

One great classic “Katie moment” was missed though here.
My favorite was the 2002 interview with Ann Coulter for the book “Slander”. Coulter called Couric the “Eva Braun of Morning TV” and the interview basically turned into a 10 minute catfight.
This wonderful website has the interview in it’s entirety. You’ll see Katie gets a tincy bit nervous after realizing that Coulter truly knew her stuff.

When Katie first did the evening news on NBC and she was Katherine Couric she was great; and even in the early years of the Today show she was still a fair reporter.
