On Thursday’s edition of CNN’s The Situation Room, pundit commentator, Jack Cafferty called President Bush a hypocrite for “lecturing” Chinese President Hu about human rights. Cafferty blames President Bush for several human rights violations he has deemed, including the Patriot Act.

CAFFERTY: Wolf, how hypocritical can you get? There’s President Bush lecturing the president of China about human rights. Now, granted, China has a very long way to go in granting freedom to its citizens. But who is President Bush to lecture anybody about human rights? Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, the Patriot Act, prisoners being sent to other countries for interrogation, allegations of torture, enemy combatants being held indefinitely without being charged or being given access to a lawyer, wiretapping Americans telephones without a warrant, in clear violation of the law that says you have to have one. What’s that old line from the Bible, let he who is without sin cast the first stone?

Does that mean he be doing the evening news in China anytime soon since they are so less “hypercritical” in the socialist paradise. What total sophist nonsense. But remember, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE LIBERAL MEDIA. Just keep mtelling yourself that and you might believe it.

Yeah, when I think hippie liberal douche, I think Jack Cafferty. You’re reaching Ian. Who are you defending China or President Bush? Just wait until Chinese cars can pass emissions in the US. We’ll bend over then too.

Hmm, China has forced abortions, infanticide, no free speech, no freedom of religion, no freedom of assembly, no freedom of association and arrests folks for expressing political dissent.

And I cut that list short to save space.

Meanwhile, the US (okay, Jack, that Bush fellow) listens in on conversations between terrorists and Americans and holds terrorists dedicated to killing Americans and westerners in a religious war.

Right, Jack, no difference between those two cases.

We’ve all heard of moral equivalency but this is the thinking of a 6-year old who wants to know why he can’t drive the car.

Really, is this considered sober and thoughtful commentary by one of the world’s leading news organizations?

What more proof do we need of mainstream media bias (except for Fox, which strives for some fairness)? Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and the Patriot Act do not compare to Tien An Minh Square and the harvesting of prisoners’ organs.

Mind you, I’m no Bush fan. I think he’s made some bad decisions. But let’s present George W. Bush as he really is, neither angel nor devil.

You can’t possibly compare China and the US when it comes to human rights.
For example, China applies the death penalty frequently and uses prisoners for below-market rate labor.

Oops, sorry, the US does those things too. Never mind!

Since 1976 when the death penalty was rule constitutional by the Surpeme Court, the US has executed 1,016 people. There are 3,373 prisoners on death row.

    According to Wikipedia questionable source),

“A senior Chinese legislator suggested in march 2004 that china executes “nearly 10,000” people each year.”

So, over the past 30 years, the US has executed 1,016 people. China executes nearly 10 times that many every year.

The gentleman posting above me is doing the same thing Cafferty did.

Are you seriously comparing the execution of convicted first degree murderers in America with the execution of people in China?

You do understand the concept of habeas corpus? Of a right to counsel? Of a right to confront your accused?

The US guarantees all of those rights to those accused of murder. China does not guarantee any of those rights.

Personally, I am against the death penalty. But someone has to have a unique view of things to compare the application of the death penalty in the United States to its application in China.

This administration supported by a complyant congress has adopted the tactics of our enemy in the persuit of the “war on terror”. Torture, rendition, holding American citizens indefinately without charge, ILLEGAL wiretaping.
These things that you support are the exact opposite of what America stands for and your ends justify the means in the “war on terror” is precisly un-american. Is there no behavior you would not excuse in persuit of this war? It does not seem so, so I would ask you to leave my country because America will not stand for this much longer.

This is an interesting standard that our liberal friends seem to be promoting.

The US cannot criticize China because of the injustices we commit here.

But when other countries criticize Amercan policies, we must listen to them and change our ways. We must listen to world opinion, this argument says.

But for some reason, the injustices of other countries (and let’s be honest: every country falls short of perfect justice) don’t matter when they criticize the US.

So, the US must be perfect before we can condemn the human rights violations of other countries. But other countries can bash the US liberally with no criticisms.

    And I do mean liberally.

As 10,000 people have died a year in Iraq (and about one quarter from direct US action) since the invasion, your point is moot. I guess it’s hard to differentiate between state-sanctioned executions and war when your head is that far up your ass. Would you make the argument that the bombing of Japan was just as evil/inhuman as the Holocaust? If you say yes, you’re a horrid human being.
