On tonight’s edition of Countdown, host Keith Olbermann awarded Michelle Malkin the “Worst Person in the World” award for posting phone numbers of Santa Cruz students. However, what Olbermann DID NOT tell you is those ‘students’ were members of an organization called Students Against War (SAW) and that they included their phone numbers in a press release. Olbermann also did not include that these students blocked military recruiters from coming on campus, not merely “protested”. His word, not mine.

Liberals depend upon two things: the character of conservatives and the secrecy of their identity. Liberalism seems deluded by the notions of enforcing equality in treatment and wealth, both of which have never worked. But, it’s funny. When conditions are bad enough, some of these ideas work. The civil rights movement in the 1960s comes to mind. After a while, the system invariably becomes corrupt.
I’m not sure liberals are filled with hate. They—by “they” I mean the mainstream of the Democratic party as well as mainstream academia—seem unable to see their own bias for whatever reason.
They certainly hate Bush, whom they see simultaneously as their intellectual inferior and Machiavellian, demonic adversary.
I don’t know what’s motivating them, and most of the time I don’t want to know. As a movement liberalism seems to have completely lost its marbles.
The way they’re treating black Republicans is one example.
The way they treat Michelle Malkin is another.
The way John Kerry clumsily mentioned Dick Cheney’s daughter during the Presidential debate.

The issue at hand is not so much the privacy of the information – given a name of any person living in this country, you can find their phone number and address within minutes in most cases. The issue is, that she posted their numbers on her site, knowing full well that those students would become subject to harassment and intimidation. Some of you seem ok with this sort of tactic, and if you believe that intimidation and harassment contribute to civil discourse in this country, than be my guest.

I sort of see your point. But I don’t subscribe to the eye for an eye mantra. I personally disagree with the students methods and behaviour at their school, but I would never go ahead and provoke people to threaten them by posting their information. Just because the students are being rude and disrespectful, does not mean you or those who disagree with them have to stoop the same (or actually lower) leve.
As far as personal responsibility goes, would you be alright, if someone posted the personal information of every single jewish person in this country or in yout city? Obviously this information is public (everyony’s number and address are in the phone book) but as I said before the issues here in not a violation of privacy, it is implicit incitement. If you’re ok with that as a tactic, than so be it.

It’s really interesting to read the SAW press release. It’s badly written, for one thing:

Which was it—negotiations or a refusal to back down?

Very poorly written, although I get the meaning. The release reads like an underground newspaper from the late 1960s—all that’s missing is references to “pigs.”
