REP. MCKINNEY: Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I come before this body to personally express again my sincere regret about the encounter with the capitol hill police. I appreciate my colleagues who are standing with me, who love this institution, and who love this country. There should not have been any physical contact in this incident. I have always supported law enforcement and will be voting for H.R. 756, Expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the professionalism and dedication of the men and women of the u.S. Capitol police. I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all and i regret its escalation and i apologize. Thank you, mr. Speaker.

Oh, come on, people! Take it with a grain of salt. She apologized. Be it with genuine sincerity or not, the least we could do is accept this apology with grace and dignity, and not act like unforgiving juveniles.
McKinney dragged the whole thing on and on, and I for one, am glad it’s over. There’s no need to drag it any further.
Besides, we’ll be able to find more villainous adversity elsewhere soon enough.

What apology?
What she said could be taken just a easily as a condemnation of the actions of the officer for touching her. She never said that she was the one that made physical contact. She can turn around and say she was refering to the officers contact. And why did she do the apology on the floor, why not have the officer or a representative from the Capitol Police present? Just more spin….

But even as McKinney appeared to be trying to put the issue to rest, a bodyguard she hired – reportedly a former Georgia state trooper – was raising another furor when he threatened a television reporter trying to interview McKinney outside the Capitol just minutes before she appeared on the House floor.
When the reporter from Cox Broadcasting tried to ask McKinney about the grand jury, the bodyguard told him, “I’m going to put your ass in jail. I’m a police officer,” a videotape of the incident shows.
Asked if he worked for Capitol police, the man said, “I work for Miss McKinney.”
Word that McKinney had hired a bodyguard roiled the ranks of the Capitol police who were worried that the guard was carrying a weapon. They said they are concerned about what the bodyguard might do if Capitol police challenged McKinney at a security checkpoint.

The ONLY reason why she issued this half-ass apology is because of the media firestorm that has happened since she slandered the Capitol Police.
She knows it is conceivable, although not likely, that she could face jail time for her reckless behavior and now she’s scared, and rightfully so.
This firestorm has undoubtedly caught McKinney off-guard because this is probably one of the very few times in her political career that her race-baiting and reckless allegations were challenged and have finally come back to bite her on the ass.
As several others have pointed out, she didn’t apologize for hitting the cop or slandering the Capitol Police force, she apologized that the incident occurred and she realizes she’s not getting away with her lame attempts to smear them. She did NOT apologize for her actions.
Does anyone believe that she is sincere in her apology at all or does anyone think she still believes everything she has said during the past week?
She went on several different shows YESTERDAY and kept repeating the same accusations that she had been claiming since the day the incident happened.
Are we to believe that she suddenly realized that she was wrong and now wants to repent for her behavior?
Yeah, right.
Flatly, she issued the non-apologetic apology because even Democrats weren’t supporting her and she now understands that she lost this PR battle.
Too little, too late…..Miss BLACK CongressWOMAN McKinney.
You should have apologized for it more than a week ago and I hope they throw the book at you.

It’s a non-apology. She still maintains there was ‘inappropriate touching’ though she didn’t use the phrase this time. But she slipped it in. In fact, there had to be touching in this case and this doesn’t cover all the slanderous accusations of racism she made while she was tearing the scenery down. This lady needs to be taught a lesson and she has been hoist on her on petard. Too bad. I saw the Capitol Police should proceed with the GJ anyway, to establish EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. Because for sure, next week after this has died down and become just another one of Cynthia’s eccentricities or peccadillos, the slurs against the officers will still be grist for the NEXT time she does this, AND SHE WILL.
