(Hat Tip: The Radio Equalizer)
Liberal and Air America host Al Franken and conservative talk show radio host Michael Smerconish appeared on NBC’s The Today Show this morning to discuss illegal immigration and the Bush administration.
SIDE NOTE: Air America is “celebrating” their two year anniversary. The Radio Equalizer has more.
After bashing the administration several times and implying that everyone should be fired because they’re “exhausted”, told Franken was told that he himself is looking exhausted:
SMERCONISH: Yeah, Al sounds a little exhausted to me this morning.FRANKEN: It’s 4:11AM! It’s four in the morning here. Screw you! I got up at four in the morning.
Franken didn’t take the obvious joke lightly, in fact, his response was “screw you”. Franken’s “jokes” and his last line received laughs from not only Lauer but also The Today Show set.

I still wonder to this day why AA hasnt taken over the airwaves.
Sparkling repertoire, rapier wit, hugely funny skits and intelligent debate….they have it all!
I especially loved the day Franken and Garafalo took turns calling Bush an idiot. Hoo boy, I felt like I was listening to a MENSA convention.

Skits, Acting, Rhetoric from Dems.
Facts, Debate, Moral Values from Republicans.
In case you haven’t gotten the memo…
Acting Skills do NOT = Intelligence

What is a Al Franken?
Answer: a Hydrocephalic posing as a macrocephalic.

Haha…lol 2008 Republicans don’t even have to worry about the vote from the illegals you schmuck Franken and Baldy Boy.
Any hispanic with a brain, education, values, and a legal citizenship vote Republican overwhelmingly anyway.
Idiots.
Oh, and once again since Dubai, the frickin Dems want to support Racial profiling against Mexicans. As Schmirkinshits pointed out, “most americans think they should all be deported”...What the frigging fuck is this.

“Screw You!”? Whatever! So what if Frankor said that. I talk the same way to some of my liberal friends.

OMG, Ian, do you have friends? when you go out with them have fun, you never say “screw you man” or hear it said between them?
Do you have a life?

I’m surprised that Matt didn’t shot back with how early he gets up in the morning every day.
It tells you something when someone like Lauer shuts your mic off.

It’s a good thing we dont have supreme court justices who make obscene gestures and tell reporters F*** you in italian inside a cathedral.

You guys really can’t handle Franken, it’s kind of funny…
What are you gonna do when he’s elected Senator in 2008?!

Franken to Smerconish: “Screw you.”
VP Dick Cheney to Sen. Patrick Leahy, on the senate floor: “Fuck off!”
It works both ways.

In public:
Franken to Smerconish: “Screw you.”
Overheard, meant to be a private comment:
VP Dick Cheney to Sen. Patrick Leahy, on the senate floor: “Fuck off!”
There is a difference. Mr. Franken enaged in public name calling. Vice President Cheney engaged is a private expression of frustration. Vice President Cheney aopolgized for his faux pas. Will Mr. Franken?

Tomorrowist:
I apologize. I believe VP Cheney’s comment to Sen. Leahy was, “Fuck yourself.”
As for it being a private comment, it was made during a senate photo session, not over the phone or behind closed doors with only the 2 of them in the room.
And, I feel certain, the only reason that VP Cheney apologized, if he in fact did, is that the remark was “overheard” by a number of people and we found out about it.

What does the Leahy/Cheney incident have to do with this?
When you liberals can’t argue on the topic—which happens 99.999% of the time—you pull out your talking points and say … “but, but, but”.
Get over it.

The set was laughing AT him. He was clearly still drunk from the previous night.
It happens.
To me, anyway.

The fact that liberals are okay with this use of language tells you something.
And, yes, I have a life and may use this phrase, but I say it in private. Oh, and, by the way, I’m not the one running for the US Senate.
11:25 am [ Quote ]
Yeah, the word “screw” sure does tell you something about all liberals.
But what should I expect from a blog called “Expose The Left”? Genuine discussion? Heh…shame on me.
11:37 am [ Quote ]
Ian, I just got done watching the clip, and your characterization of it is incredibly deceptive.
Franken is obviously kidding and everybody knows it. That’s why everybody is laughing, including Michael. And Lauer’s “turn off his mic” comment is obviously his attempt to insert a joke at the end.
People…come on. You’re really debating this? Jeez…
12:13 pm [ Quote ]
Jesus, you guys really don’t have a sense of humor do you?
12:31 pm [ Quote ]
Haha, I actually thought it was funny, and I’m a Republican. Franken wasn’t taking it seriously.
2:13 pm [ Quote ]
Ian:
I never said, “but, but, but…”
I don’t really care what kind of foul language anyone uses. I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy. It happens on both sides, and it shows a lack of vocabulary and class on both sides, as well.

Yeah… Sense of humor… I’m still laughing at Franken for acting like a complete douche bag on national TV.

[...] via Brian Maloney over at Radio Equalizer (who catches no end of Mooonbat shit in his comments…which means his shots are leaving marks), we find this bit of video fun at Expose the Left, (and a transcript courtesy of Newsbusters), wherein Head Idiot Al Franken gets bent out of shape on The Today Show when he has to go up against a radio pro who tweaks him by taking Franken’s “exhausted” joke (which the Today crew found amusing) and points it right back at him. Franken, the thin-skinned prick who’s thinking about running for the US Senate, snaps: Smerconish: “Yeah, Al sounds a little exhausted to me this morning.” Franken: “It’s 4:11AM! It’s four in the morning here….Screw you! I got up at four in the morning.” [...]

Hmm, referring to Clinton as Clenis (so mature), making money off a woman’s death (because thats really how you support the troops!), using expletivies in posts if its something that furthers your agenda, but then crying like a baby anytime a liberal says “crap.” Ian Schwarz:Keyboard Kommando, keeping you safe from celebrities and bad words!

Uh oh, my comments are getting deleted again.
Yeah, I’ve had that here, too. That’s just one step away from creating false comments under another person’s name. Only some fundamental sense of decency that most people share (or fear of being found out, in some cases) prevents that from occurring. But, yeah, we should all be aware that this mysterious post-disappearing phenomenon happens from time to time.
My suggestion is to copy the comment & save it in a notepad document w/the date stamp. Then when you see it’s been deleted, repost it with that information. It’s not proof of anything, but at least if you have a reputation for behaving responsibly, it’s good evidence. (Another good argument for behaving responsibly.)
I’m all for exposing the falsehoods and hypocrisies of individuals (case in point), organizations, and movements, but I think this right/left dichotomy we’ve got going on in this country is harmful and debilitating to public dialogue and understanding. Painting “all liberals” or “all conservatives” one color is foolish and petty, and distracts from the real problems our society, government and nation face. In fact, it keeps people caught up in petty squabbling so that the real internal enemies of our society can corrupt its infrastructure. One cannot fight this by being a part of it. The only antidote is to cultivate a higher standard within oneself, and to help others do the same.

I remember when Al was funny.
He has gotten brittle in his old age. Maybe politcs is not his forte.
From the comments on this thread, it appears many demmies have gotten brittle and lost their sense of humor as well. Everyone else on the clip was laughing and smiling.
Too bad, so sad!
4:32 pm [ Quote ]
Actually, the vice president told Senator Leahy to “Go Fuck Yourself”, which was not as bad as getting drunk and shooting his friend in the face.

Franken is a pathetic show host on a pathetic network with pathetic arbitron ratings. Only a stooge like Matt Lauer could take him seriously.

Hey, Matt Lauer is NOT a stooge!!
Matt Lauer is vacuous, pretty-boy newsreader!
A stooge has more dignity and self-respect than he does!
As a matter of fact, I remember three who had more than he does.
And they thought up their own gags too!

All Hail The Chef Award!...
Ed Morrissey writes that Al Franken can go on The Today Show and “joke about how exhausted [Andrew] Card has become after five years of 18-hour days, seven days a week, but God forbid anyone mention a lack of energy…...

In New York, Al Franken is heard Noon until 3 p.m. on WLIB and Bill O’Reilly’s show airs 2 – 4 p.m on WOR so they actually only go head-to-head for one hour. But, during that overlapping hour of 2 – 3 p.m., “The Al Franken Show” pulled in a 2.3 share of Persons 12+ where O’Reilly earned a 2.1. Also, in adults 25-54 during the same period, Franken had a 2.3 share and O’Reilly a 0.8.
11:03 am [ Quote ]
And that’s with a transmitter that puts out a fraction of the power of WOR.
Remember when O’Reilly said that Air America was going off the air in New York? Or when he said AAR was going under, 37 times now?

In your capsule description of the telecast, you managed to omit (can’t imagine why…) that Smerconish followed his comment about Franken sounding exhausted with “I wish I were out with him last night”. It was his choice to take a personal jab at Franken, the first personal jab of the discussion. So, Franken responded; and his response was intended (and succeeded) to be humorous, as you can hear from everyone’s reaction (including Smerky) and see from Franken’s face.
Nice try, Ian.
Air America’s growing, son, not dying. Many on the right have been trumpeting its immediate demise for more than the two years it’s been broadcasting (What’s that old Mark Twain quote about reports of his death being greatly exaggerated?). They’re about as likely to go off the air as your drug-riddled buddy Limbaugh. Keep wishing, but don’t make big plans for the celebration.
