Expose the Left
March 29, 2006

A Congressional source e-mails that Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D – GA) slapped a Capitol policeman this afternoon after attending a Democratic press-op unveiling their new plan for national security. Al though not confirmed, the object she hit the police officer with was apparently a cell phone. McKinney was apparently entering her office building when a policeman stopped her because she was not wearing her pin that would identify her as a congresswoman.

UPDATE (5:45 PM EDT) : The Drudge Report says she will be arrested after Congress adjourns for the day.

UPDATE: CNN picks up the story …

Suitably Flip is also on top of this.

Landon, no one suggested that the Cheney hunting accident was not newsworthy. The Dems and the MSM going Ape S#!t and suggesting there was somehow a conspiracy to keep the story from hitting the media is what was not newsworthy.

And let me try to understand the whacked-liberal logic…

Dismissing the story and ignoring the subject to make irrelevant points…OK
Addressing the Issue at hand in the comment section of a certain post…not OK

I’ve never met a whacked-liberal that has stayed on topic while making a coherent argument. All we ask is that you try harder.

McKinney’s mouth is usually what usually gets her into trouble, she is now using her fist! McKinney is one who claimed President Bush was in on the 9/11 attacks. “A complete investigation might reveal” that “President Bush or members of his administration have personally profited from the attacks of 9-11.” Unfortunately McKinney won’t be making a profit for punching an honest cop for doing his job!

If police are to assume anyone they don’t recognize who is rushing by without standard visible ID is a congressperson, it would be fairly easy to get people in who shouldn’t be there. Also reflects negatively on the Represenative for breaking the law (committing battery on a Police Officer). Battery is still battery, no matter the physical level of the strike. Also not 2-3 weeks non-stop newsworthy and probably won’t be because of the immigration thing.

[...] Hattip: Expose the Left statement: “Earlier today I had an unfortunate confrontation with a Capitol Hill Police Officer. It is traditional protocol that Capitol Hill Police Officers secure 535 Members of Congress, including 100 Senators. It is the expectation of most Members of Congress that Capitol Hill Police officers know who they are. I was urgently trying to get to an important meeting on time to fulfill my obligations to my constituents. Unfortunately, the Police Officer did not recognize me as a Member of Congress and a confrontation ensued. I did not have on my Congressional pin but showed the Police Officer my Congressional ID. Let’s see Representative McKinney:

    1. Asaulted an officer of the law during performance of his duties. The officer probably has power to stop by whatever means necessary ANYONE on the Capitol grounds.
    2. Called a big news conference with famous and not-so-famous attendents on hand to show supoort for her actions.
    3. Did not apologize to the officer or the Capitol Police.
    4. Did not deny that she committed an assault by hitting the officer with her phone.
    5. Blamed the officer by calling him and all other white officers on the Capitol Police force racists implying that a black officer would have incompotently let her go throug the checkpoint whether he recognized her or not.

What kind of person behaves this way? We all know.

The officer, instead of nicely asking her to stop, should have drawn his weapon and shot a couple of rounds over her head to get her attention. It is worth noting that two of his fellow officers had been killed in the line of duty a couple of years before.

I hope that they prosecute this woman. She committed a crime.

The congresswoman, Representative McKinney, has forgotten that she is supposed to serve the people, and believes representing the people is about her, not about serving and respecting hard working people. She should be abour ensuring people are safe, obeying rules, & obeying laws. Her self-serving behavour which included assult & battery, should be punished just like an ordinary citizen, or a federal employee and employee would punished.

    I’m not racist.
    I’m not a Republican.
    I’m not a Democrat.
I AM an ordinary US citizen.

Cynthia McKinney should NOT have punched the officer, regardless of her frustrations with alleged racial profiling and harrasment. As a public servant, she is expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and expected to set an example. There are legal means that she or anybody can use to address alleged misconduct by police. She should have been arrested once the session was over. If that had been any other white or black person, they would have been handcuffed on the spot. The fact that she is a congresswoman gave her special constitutional rights at that moment. I question her intelligence for striking a Capitol police officer at a time when national security is the most important issue our country is facing. These men are responsible for protecting the Capitol… an important American symbol of democracy, and a target of 9/11 terrorists. Why would a member of Congress, white or black, man or woman, attack the capitol police at this time in our nation’s history? Not smart. She could have diffused this whole situation by just apologizing for her MISTAKE and bad judgement. Instead, she chose to play the race card and set a bad example. If a U.S. Congresswoman plays the race card everytime she messes up, then black people all around the country are surely to follow suit. IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE, ADMIT IT! Why, when people mess up, do they always try to lay blame elsewhere instead of where it belongs, on themselves.

I also find her arguments confusing. She is attacking the practice of using a pin as identification. I agree with her. The issue should probably be addressed. That still doesn’t explain why she DIDN’T where her pin and/or why she struck an officer.

She then talks about her hair. If a popular white congressman of 20 years suddenly shaves his head and then goes into the Capitol and tries to walk around the metal detectors without wearing his pin, he would be stopped. Anybody who changes their appearance will most likely be stopped, isn’t that to be expected? And that still doesn’t explain why she struck the police officer.

I find this all quite humerous. Charge her and sentence her to 60 days community service. End of story. If her constituents wish to keep her in office, then that’s their problem.
