Expose the Left
March 20, 2006

WOMAN: Thank you for coming to Cleveland, Mr. President, and the city club. My question is that author and former Nixon administration official Kevin Phillips, in his latest book, American Theocracy, discusses what he calls radical Christianity and its growing involvement into government and politics. He makes the point that members of your administration have reached out to prophetic Christians who see the War in Iraq and the rise of terrorism as signs of the apocalypse. Do you believe this: that the War in Iraq and the rise of terrorism are signs of the apocalypse and if not, why not?

[laughter]

PRESIDENT BUSH: The answer is, I haven’t really thought of it that way.

[laughter]

UPDATE: Right Winged finds a discrepancy because the White House transcript (accurate one) and CNN’s.

I don’t know…at least she asked, rather than just assuming. I mean, Bush has openly portrayed himself as an evangelical christian so, even though it’s a wacky question, maybe she was just curious.

What I am more interested in is the line at the bottom of the screen that says, ” BUSH: SECURITY OF U.S. IS LINKED TO LIBERTY OF THE IRAQI PEOPLE.” Did he explain how he made that connection?

I watched it live on CNN. I agree with Madison that at least it was a question, not an accusation. Furthermore, it was asked with civility…something you do not see too often with the conspiracy types.

I also thought that the President responded very well to most of the questions. Shortly after this one someone else asked about the premise for war, yadda yadda. Bush was both defensive and assertive in his answer, and showed his true concern for the matter. He’s not a great speaker, but this sort of town-hall environment really seems to suit him.

Yes Madison, he did… In fact it was a long speech, and I didn’t time it, but the really long Q&A seemed longer than the speech.

I don’t think he needs to explain that connection considering he’s been doing it for years and we all already know the connection. Even if you’re a liberal blinded by idealogy who doesn’t accept the premise, you still know what it is. There’s a lot more involved but the long and short of it is free & peaceful iraq = model for middle east = more stable middle east = less violence and despair = less terrorism = less exported terrorism.

First of all, to Randy: Thank you, thank you, thank you, for responding in a relatively civil manner and stating your point intelligently. I’m not being sarcastic, I really do appreciate it.

And, to firebennish: Your non-sequiturs are so beyond any reason or comprehension, they are simply absurd. You can read my post #11 under the story entitled “Cheney Responds to Kennedy’s Iraq War Bash on Face The Nation.” Nothing you say will ever bother me, so take your best shot and keep wasting your time.

An article on how war deaths are dropping exponentially across the world vs. previous eras in history. Forward this to a ‘progressive’ if you want to piss them off.

Listening to the insane left, you would think the Iraq War is the greatest crime ever committed (and hence the frequent ‘Bush is Hitler’ nonsense that they say.

True. The far left really seems set on the fact that we, as Americans, are horrible. I am glad that there are moderate democrats able to discuss the issue with civility and logic, but too many crazies have taken over the left to allow it, it seems.

That’s right, there’s a voter in the new democracy on trial FOR HIS LIFE for being a closet Christian. The reply will be that he’s lucky, under the Taliban he’d not get a fair trial before being executed. Shiara or irony? There’s a bumper sticker for you.

LOL The term “peaceful” being the caveat, here. I think it’s fairly obvious that the middle east has become less of all of these things since we attacked Iraq.

Let us assume Bush’s answer to this woman’s question was – yes! What difference does it make? No Christian, even those strongly believing in the Apocalypse, change their behavior based on that fact; they keep on doing their best in whatever spehere of live they are engaged, and while being aware of the prophetic signs they don’t have an agenda to bring it about or play some particular role in it.

So, while I admire the civil way in which this question was asked, I must wonder what the motive was, what information she was trying to extract from the President and for what reason!

Um… You’re misconstruing what I said. You’re bringing up an entirely different debate. Read what I actually said, and what it was in response to…

Madison noticed FoxNews’s paraphrasing of what Bush said on the bottom of the screen about the connection to our security and liberty in Iraq. Madison wondered if Bush explained this connection, and I simply replied that he has been consistently explaining it all along. You may not agree with it, but that is the gist of what the President and others have said.

So again, your argument is pointless. I wasn’t saying “this is how it’s going to be and it will definitely work”, I answered another commenters question as to whether the President has explained that connection.

So get some comprehension skills before you call my comment the “wingnuttiest”... Seriously, go back and read

Well I liked the question from the high school kid yesterday about him being able to go to College since every person was spending 19,000 plus dollars on the Iraq war. I wonder if he rather get hit with a mustard bomb? I actually wonder who got him to ask the question? Most of the money for school loans isn’t very hard to get. All my friends who had poor grades got loans, besides all the money being spent over in Iraq. This question was a good one, though it’s according to the author. At least we see are students are reading something in school. What that something is I have no earthly idea.

Where are the moonbats on this? Oh forgot, freedom of expression, just like drinking the tainted kool-aid.

But wait! Were they allowed to do this to celebrate their Shi’ite religion under Saddam?

Why do people criticize and question America like we are the bad guys, when the worst of it is everywhere but in or from America? These are not the people I want leading my country.

Sean, the only mustard bomb you’ve ever been in danger of being hit with was in the school cafeteria. If mustard gas, anthrax, or any other such truly half-ass “WMD” were a domestic threat, ACE hardware would be shut down circa 9/12/01. C’mon. Just c’mon. The administration that succesfully kept you up nights with this “threat” is the same one still offering Red Green duct tape remedies. Yes the dems are myopic at best and opportunistic motards at, well, there we have it. Bush=baaad, us therefore, um, (bubble-bubble) what? Point being no, Iraq ain’t an inescapable quagmire. We need the well-protected modern equivalent of the fighting SeaBees to make Iraqi lights and sewage work consistently under fire. That alone should rid any common Iraqi of their stuff-is-worse-now beef. Period. They’ve already gotten online and cell phones since we removed Saddam to Doritoville. Bam, that’s all anybody anywhere needs to succeed. Heck, Nigerians may be getting rich bilking our eldery with one out of the last two amenities. If Afghanistan is trying Muslim converts (Apostate + Christianity = death penalty here) and other delightfully Sharia treats right now, then what are we hoping for in Iraq? If the genius blood-for-oil crew is right, where’s my cheap gas? On the other hand, if we are truly in this fight to promote democracy in the Middle East, are we prepared for Middle Easterners’ penchant for Middle Eastern values? Hamas was just elected to represent the will of the people so I’m a little concerned about any particular group of people who happen to be sub-Central American dirt poor without benefit of cocaine profits, pissed off, well armed, and have a lot of time on their hands due to lack of TV and a reliable place to take a poop.

According to numbers I made up, the claims that the war has actually helped terrorists recruit new members is 5,000,000% wrong! And to boot, we’ve helped the Iraqis fight the spectre of overpopulation by eliminating 30,000 of their civilians, while rescuing them from the murderous Hussein regime, as well! Not to mention how we’ve stimulated the economy—the fiscal benefit of thsi war is outshined only by the economic boon that is the series of tax-cuts-for-the-rich!

Guess they should’ve voted differently.
