On the 4pm hour of today’s The Situation Room, “anchor” (and I use that term very loosely) Jack Cafferty explained how great and “funny” he thinks Jon Stewart is. Stewart, the host of The Daily Show, appeared on Larry King Live last night to discuss his career. Stewart is a liberals and his show leans liberals with its constant mockery of President Bush and lack of heat towards Democrats. On last night’s edition of Larry King Live, Stewart used Terri Schiavo, a woman murdered by the order of her husband, as a way to define the Republican and Democrat parties.

Cafferty asked the audience “Is there another option besides Democrats and Republicans?”, which got an overwhelming anti-Republican response.

You’re asking the wrong question, Jack. We don’t have the choice anymore between Republicans and Democrats. Our only choice is between neocon nutbags and invertebrates.

After reading the response, Cafferty chuckled a bit.

(CBS) The latest CBS News poll finds President Bush’s approval rating has fallen to an all-time low of 34 percent, while pessimism about the Iraq war has risen to a new high.

The number of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents polled:

“Total Republicans” contacted: 272 unweighted and 289 weighted.

“Total Democrats” contacted: 409 unweighted and 381 weighted.

“Total Independents” contacted: 337 unweighted and 348 weighted.

That is 27% Republicans polled compared 40% Democrats polled. RightWinged.com provides this helpful image:

“The New York Times’ decision to sue the Department of Defense over documents related to the terrorist surveillance program seriously undermines our national security. To entrust the very same newspaper that leaked confidential national security information with internal memos and emails would only further jeopardize our government’s ability to protect its people. Their disclosure of such sensitive information should be viewed as a crime, not as an act of heroism as it has been so popularly portrayed in the mainstream media. By choosing to take on the Department of Defense in court, the New York Times has decided that they are better guardians against the threat of terrorism than the officials that have been entrusted to defend this nation.?

“The whole incident in the fall of 2004 showed really the power of the ‘blogosphere’,? he said in his West Wing office.

“Because in essence you had now, an army of self-appointed experts looking over the shoulder of the mainstream media and bringing to bear enormously sophisticated skills,? he added.

Still, Rove cautioned that the Internet’s political potential has a darker side.

“There is so much ugliness and viciousness and fundamental untruths that the blogosphere transmits,? he lamented. “It also is a vehicle for ugly rumors, for scurrilous personal attacks, an avenue for the creation of urban legends which are deeply corrosive of the political system and of people’s faith in it.?

Rove said Rather and his producer, Mary Mapes, were gunning for the president and trying to help his challenger, Sen. John Kerry, by broadcasting the forged documents in the heat of the presidential campaign.

“From her body language and his body language, their enthusiasm for this story was in large measure fed by the belief that they were playing a constructive and perhaps determinative role in the presidential campaign,? Rove said of Mapes and Rather.

“They made a decision in this instance – I think quite prematurely and quite unfairly – to pursue a story that attacked the president,? he added. “And I thought it was, to me, one of the most incredible examples of how fundamentally unfair it was.?

Rove expressed astonishment that CBS ignored the warnings of document experts hired by the network to authenticate the National Guard memos.

“It goes back to the failure of the mainstream media, in this instance, to honor their own experts,? he said.

Dubai is trying to “shut up” Lou Dobbs:

DOBBS: Dubai Ports World tonight is making what I consider to be a rather astonishing new attempt to silence me and our coverage of this ports deal and our reporting of what at least I consider to be legitimate national security concerns about this transaction. Dubai Ports World has actually refused to grant CNN anymore interviews from Washington or London, and it’s refused to allow CNN to videotape its operations in the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong if we were to show you the video on this broadcast.

This is not the first time that Dubai Ports World has tried to silence me. Last week, a spokesman for the public relations firm that represents the company, Mark Dennis, declared, “CNN won’t shut up Lou Dobbs.” And as a result, they weren’t going to cooperate.

Noel Sheppard points out the irony in Dobbs’ statement

On Monday’s edition of MNSBC’s Countdown, host Keith Olbermann criticized FOX News host Bill O’Reilly over the latter’s petition to get the former fired. Olbermann who started the ‘feud’ won’t end it, and he is the one giving fire to it, not O’Reilly. Keith Olbermann’s show, which is on the air at the same time O’Reilly’s show is, normally gets anywhere from 1/10th to 1/7th of what his rival gets, yet his ego makes him think that the two are equals.

On this Sunday’s edition of CNN’s Reliable Sources, host Howard Kurtz discussed the television fued in his “Media Minute” segment. This is what Olbermann had to say about it:

OLBERMANN: The oddest development comes from nor FOX or MSNBC, but from CNN, Howard Kurtz’s media program Reliable Sources. He spent part of a segment called the “Media Minute” covering this. That’s right, CNN’s coverage of FOX’s attack on MSNBC.

Yet it seems to me that Kurtz thought [correctly] that the attacks are coming from Olbermann, not O’Reilly.

HOWARD KURTZ: FOX’s Bill O’Reilly must really be annoyed with his MSNBC rival, Keith Olbermann, taking all those shots at him.

As the Countdown segment continued, Olbermann took shots at the names of the people who signed O’Reilly’ petition, because many of them poked fun at the FOX host.

ALAN COLMES, HOST: Senator Majority leader Bill Frist is urging to wait results before acting on legislation that would block or delay the deal. What is the political priced that Bush administration will pay for this deal? Joining us, Former Clinton Adviser Dick Morris. We just got word that the Coast Guard has said their intelligence assessment says there are many intelligence gaps in this. Susan Collins of Maine says it’s astounding in December they have all of these gaps, A month later, no more gaps. Clearly we’re not getting the whole story here.

DICK MORRIS: Alan, like you, there are many things the Bush administration does that I do not approve of. But unlike you, the one thing I trust them on is the War on Terror.

And I believe we make a fundamental misconception, which is we assume that the War on Terror is basically to be waged by Homeland security as a defensive operation. A terribly important part of the reason why we haven’t been attacked is the offense that’s going on in iraq and Afghanistan militarily, and with the UAE and Kuwait diplomatically. They turned over the Cole bomber to us and they are an important ally of the United States even though they are arabs. You know, if it’s so radioactive why does Bill Clinton have a scholarship in the Dubai?
