COLMES: What’s your reaction to the nomination of Alito?

DEAN: Uh, a couple of reactions. First of all, I think it shows the President’s weakness, that the extreme right of the party seems to be driving the judicial nominations process.

Say what? I didn’t even know who Alito was before his nomination today. Many folks in the Republican party didn’t even have his name in the top 3, much less top 5. Howie needs to pick and choose his battles and stop reading from the DNC talking point cue card.

As the segment progressed Howie begin to spout the latest Democratic “common slogans” such as, “Karl Rove needs to be fired”, “culture of corruption”, and my favorite, “Cheney was the source of Plame’s name”. Gee, it’s amazing that Howard knows everything about this case yet he wasn’t even in the courtroom for one day.

I’ll take “Who is God?” for $100, Howard.

Beth Twitty appeared on Greta tonight to announce that she is returning to Aruba tomorrow for a three day period. Beth says that Dompig is spreading some “not so nice” rumors about her on Aruba and she is going to confront him about them. Twitty wonders why the focus is on some silly rumors and not on the most important thing—her missing daughter.

Steve Huff of Planet Huff appeared on Live & Direct w/ Rita Cosby to discuss Scott Dyleski, the boy suspected of killing Pamela Vitale Horowitz. Pamela is the wife of high-profile defense attorney Daniel Horowitz. This case has swept the nation recently, however I have not posted anything about it. Go to Steve’s blog and check it out a few times a day for updates on the case.

Howard Dean kept saying “I believe the government should not be involved in our personal lives”. Where was he when Schumer and his minions were going through Michael Steele’s tax documents?

Howie complains that Rove still has a security clearance. He hasn’t been indicted or in any way named in this investigation by Fitzgerald. Why should he get it taken away anyways? As far as WE KNOW, He didn’t use it to obtain Plame’s name. Dean says Libby got it too. So who is the one that obtained it? Make up your mind Howie.

COURIC: During the last two years your integrity has been questioned, your character has been questioned as well. There’s been suggestions that your wife was in fact responsible for dispatching you to Niger, that you and she have a vendetta – some kind of personal political vendetta against the Bush administration, that you actually introduced her at parties as your CIA wife and therefore divulging her identity yourself and that your report about the sale of uranium by Niger to Iraq was actually inconclusive and that the Vice President never saw this report. So I guess that raises the question, do you have some kind of personal vendetta against the Bush administration? Do you want the Bush administration to fail?

According to Katie Couric, exposing the truth is now considered smearing someone? He got the job because of his wife and we know that the report he gave was inconclusive.

Like I noted above, the findings by Joe Wilson is inconclusive. The 9/11 commission and the Senate contradicted what he said, thus rendering whatever he wrote as false. The thing that really boils my blood is when the main-stream media (MSM) does not report this or ask him in an interview. It happened on this morning’s Today, it happened on 60 Minutes, and it happened on Dateline. When will the MSM stop asking Wilson softball questions and actually ask him something we haven’t heard before?

NOTE: Rough transcript.

HOST: we’ll have it live as soon as it begins. Wait for that, more on the nomination of Samuel Alito is chris matthews. Of course, conservatives extremely happy.

MATTHEWS: Right.

HOST: Let’s cut to the chase. Do you think we’ll see a filibuster?

MATTHEWS: I don’t know. I think the democrats, i’m sitting here holding in my hands a disgusting document, put out not for at try bution. the democrats are circulating it. it’s a complaint sheet against judge alito’s nomination. the first thing they nail is he failed to win a mob conviction in 1988. they nail him on not putting italian mobsters in jail. why would they bring this up? this is either a very bad coincidence or very bad politics. either way it will hurt them. this document, not abortion rights, not civil rights but that he failed to nail some mobsters in 1988. this is the top of their list. amazingly bad politics. .

HOST: why not attack him if you are a liberal, why not openly say we fear for abortion rights?

MATTHEWS: i have to ask that. why did they put this document out. this will hurt the democrats. they shouldn’t go after ethnicity. as a prosecutor, a judge, a yale law grad. i don’t understand this kind of politics. unless they have someone who nut on the top of 20 items. the guy being than i talian american not nail a conviction in 17 years ago? interesting.

HOST: what you have in your hand, who signed it?

MATTHEWS: i was given it by one of the producers of nbc, called democrats are circulating this document. they are trying not to put a signature on it. it’s from them.

HOST: and is it a good move for president bush to have this nomination come on the first weekday after scooter libby indicted and resigned?

MATTHEWS: i think they had this list honed. they were going through a favorite list, probably a couple more in line behind him. they have been in this process for a long time. they knew the judges in the supreme court were getting on in years and they would have an opening and roberts did well and this one is of the same quality perhaps. we’ll see what the issues will be raised by the democrats. i think it will be an interesting fight. does it trigger extraordinary by the gang of 14? there it be a filibuster? the subquestion isl the 14 hang together and make sure there is a vote here? the republicans are in the mood for a nuclear option here.

HOST: you and i have discussed this before, whether a woman would have been nominated. his own wife said she would prefer to have a woman. sandra day o’connor has also been vocal about it. what will be fall-out be?

MATTHEWS: i think there’s a lot of phoniness about trying to find balance on the court. why not have gender balance. so many him like yourself coming out of the best law schools. you know going through harvard just as many women as men are coming out. why wouldn’t you go for them if you are looking for young talent? i assume the law firms are doing the same. they went for harriet miers, not top of the class and now they figured we tried. that’s enough. a lot of phoneiness about gender balance here.

Tim Chapman has the memo.

Blogger Conference Call with RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman on the Alito Nomination

Monday, October 31, 2005

4 p.m. EST

Bloggers on the Call

Michelle Malkin, Matt Margolis, Don Surber, Tim Chapman, Ankle Biting Pundits (call roundup)

Matt Margolis describes the call:

The blogger conference call with Ken Mehlman on the nomination of Judge Alito just ended… It went very well… Bloggers were greeted by RNC eCampaign director Patrick Ruffini, who explained that conference calls such as this one was part of their effort to engage the blogopshere in the nomination process. RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman came on shortly after and told us he appreciated the work bloggers were doing. On Alito, he explained that this is the most experienced nominee we’ve seen in 70 years, and that his character and philosphy is consistent with what the president said it should be, that judges should interpret the law, not make law…

He also warned us to expected partisan attacks… which I’m sure all of us anticipated anyway. He said to remember what happened with Judge Roberts, and how his membership in the Federalist Society was scrutinized, and the New York Times intention to look into the adoption records of Roberts’ children.
